| So... what are everyone's thoughts on the new Idol Boot Song by.... DAVID COOK! ?
Don't You (Forget About Me) Hey, hey, hey ,hey Ohhh...
Won't you come see about me? I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts Giving me everything inside and out and Love's strange so real in the dark Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart When the light gets into your heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me Don't Don't Don't Don't Don't You Forget About Me
Will you stand above me? Look my way, never love me Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling Down, down, down
Will you recognize me? Call my name or walk on by Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling Down, down, down, down
Hey, hey, hey, hey Ohhhh.....
Don't you try to pretend It's my feeling we'll win in the end I won't harm you or touch your defenses Vanity and security
Don't you forget about me I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby Going to take you apart I'll put us back together at heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me Don't Don't Don't Don't Don't You Forget About Me
As you walk on by Will you call my name? As you walk on by Will you call my name? When you walk away
Or will you walk away? Will you walk on by? Come on - call my name Will you all my name?
I say : La la la..

I love this song... always have. And (surprise, surprise) I love David's version even more than the original. It seems darker and more... bad word nerd, I can't find the word I'm looking for right now. I love the growlieness - totally made that word up - in his voice.
I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not your typical syrupy sweet good-bye song. I love that they gave David this honor, and then chose a song that lets him be a rocker. _________________ Thank you, Tricia for the beautiful sigline! |

| I've always LOVED this song!!! And now, sung by David... heaven!!! I absolutely agree with you, Jeannie and of course, I had to listen to it for the gazillionth time with the lyrics in front of me Having said that, I think "LOTM" would have worked wonderfully here... but oh well, it wasn't the right moment I guess. _________________ ♥ Keeper of the Analog Heart ♥ |

| Jeannie, I'm totally with you on the magicalness of his growlieness. And not coming up with the right (real) words to describe what qualities of his voice and interpretation of this song really get to me. I said in the thread in the DD that it's edgier. And darker. And like it's emanating from deeper in his body than others - I think I'll change that to the less wordy version - growlieness. It's almost menacing. He, like, wraps the words around his mouth and they come out slightly twisted. I'm reminded of someone's (don't remember who) blog about him on Idol and how his songs like "Hello" and ABMB were kinda stalkerish, but in a way that doesn't totally creep one out, lol. This one has a bit of that. And a bit of IYDIYAT - not the anger, but something... maybe a touch of bitterness? Maybe after listing to it a few dozen times I'll come up with the right words, lol. _________________ If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, it does not, in fact, make a sound. | I'm glad I'm not the only Word Nerd having trouble describing what I feel. I totally agree with you... there's some of that Hello stalkerishness there. Not creepy, but "I'm here, I'm not going anywhere" kind of feeling. And the slight demand of the song (not "please don't forget about me" but "Don't you forget about me") is so complimented by his tone of voice. You can feel him telling you... almost ordering you, and I think a large part of that is his slightly dark tone. But it's not scary... there's that reminiscence of that guy (we all knew/know one) who is the "bad boy". He attracts you even if you know maybe he's not the safe choice. And I hear that bad boy sound when he gets growly like this. _________________ Thank you, Tricia for the beautiful sigline! |

| LMAO at all the word nerds left speechless today. It is darker than, but definitely respectful of the original. For me it's all about the phrasing and enunciation. The way he emphasizes certain words and syllables brings meaning and life to them.
I would like to buy Simon Fuller a drink for choosing this song and the perfect man/voice to sing it. _________________ |

| I would buy a round for him as well.
And oh yes, the way he enunciates certain words. Like "vanity and security." *sighs and goes to listen yet again.* _________________ Thank you, Tricia for the beautiful sigline! |

| Maybe I bought myself one drink to celebrate all this awesomesauce!!! I agree with y'all, but especially with what Barb said, "It is darker than, but definitely respectful of the original". That's the greatness of a fantastic singer! The depth of David's voice can take you so far and beyond from the original! I'm sooo glad they let him be the rocker (instead of the other "swan" songs singers) _________________ ♥ Keeper of the Analog Heart ♥ |

Yeah, some words are borderline sneering, but still entirely, your word, respectful, of the original. With covers like this, it's like... he makes you remember how cheesy the original was, because it contrasts with his version so much in... the emotion of the delivery. The originals were just basic pop delivery. His really warps it, but still is true to in somehow. Gah! Words fail again! Okay...
He takes cheesy 80's pop, chews them up, swallows them, and spits them out again something new but made of the same molecules as what went in, but with some stomach acid mixed in, lol. And by finding the true core of the good song, but dispensing with the pop mechanism they were delivered with, he lets us see the true worth of the song, as could only be seen by his re-invention of it. But that exposes what was cheesy about the original. So he's respecting the song, but not necessarily the original singer. | I think he has a slight obsession with turning cheesy 80s songs into something great. I bet it's the challenge. He seems to be very motivated by a good challenge. _________________ |

| Supposedly this 49 second snippet (about halfway down the page) is the version that will be used as the sing-off for the show. _________________ Thank you, Tricia for the beautiful sigline! |
