Rules of Conduct: Introduction

The"Rocking the Vote – Home of the Word Nerds" forum was established by a small group of volunteers who share a common interest in American Idol David Cook and are die-hard Word Nerds. Originally, it was set up to maximize the voting power and techniques for making DC AI Season 7's winner.
And WE DID IT!!!

Now we start a new phase of our community as DC's Word Nerds fanbase. We wish to make this a real HOME for the Word Nerds and all DC fans and preserve the creative work, camaraderie, humor, lots of good, silly and sometimes twisted fun we developed at our other favorite forums. This site is not intended to replace our old stomping grounds, but rather to give us a home base whose sole purpose is housing the Word Nerd family.

Therefore, we want to make this site a welcoming, safe online sanctuary to all DC fans who wish to frolic where freedom of expression is honored (no banned camp) if you follow some simple rules.

Rules of Conduct: The Rules

1. Respect your fellow members. Do not engage in personal attacks, racial/ethnic/sexual/religious/political or any type of harassment, defamation, hostility or trouble making of any sort. Do not insult, snipe, attack or question the motives, intelligence, musical knowledge, sanity or fashion sense of other posters. Never tell a fellow poster how or what to post. Do not question whether a poster is a "good/real/true" fan. Do not scold other posters about their opinions, feelings, naiveté or expectations. Do not send another user a 'nasty PM' to get around this rule.

Also, please NO SPAMMING! If you have something you'd like to tell everyone or bring to people's attention, post it in the appropriate section. Sending out mass PM's can not only be annoying to the recipient, but is also counter productive due to the limitations set on yours and your fellow members In/Out/Sent/Save Boxes. If you are found to be spamming members on the board, your ability to send and receive Private Messages will be revoked temporarily or permanently on a case by case basis. If you have questions about this or would like suggestions on other ways to spread the word, please contact the Forum Mods.

2. Respect David Cook. This is a fanbase forum and we are all here because we are DC fans. We are free to discuss everything related to him and his career, but no bashing or back-handed comments about him will be tolerated. If there is something you don't like or disagree with, please remember to keep it respectful. If you see something you disagree with that could spark an argument, please do not respond - just ignore it.

David's and his family's personal lives are not to be discussed on this forum. Yes we realize that the articles and other such things are out there, but out of respect for David and his family's privacy, please keep any discussion of this nature off this board. References to them or links to credible articles, charities and the like is fine.  But in-depth reporting and discussion is not and such posts will be modified or deleted at the discretion of the mods. Before posting, ask yourself this: would you feel your family's privacy invaded if someone posted that about your sibling or child? If you have questions about this, please PM one of the mods.  We're not saying you can't talk about these things amongst yourselves, we just ask that you do not do it on this board.

3. Respect other message boards and their members. Do not use this board as a staging area to cause mischief on another message board. Likewise, do not use other message boards to plan attacks on this board or our posters. Assume that anything you post will be read by not only someone you consider a friend in here, but who may frequent a "rival" board to your other favorite boards.

4. This site is rated PG-13.

The minimum age to be registered on this site is 13. All minors who are registered on this site are assumed to have parental permission, guidance and monitoring.Anyway, do not post pornographic or sexually explicit images, contentor links of any kind. Sexual innuendos are fun, clever and witty (inother words, word-nerdy), and acceptable. If your post is found to betoo graphic or over the line, it may be modified or deleted.

Please be mindful of the fact that there may be minors reading what you are posting. If you wouldn't feel comfortable talking to a 13 year old in person about what you are posting, you are better off not posting it. Also bear in mind that some comments may be uncomfortable for some members and disrespectful to DC. Use your good judgment and all will be good. NO X-RATED MATERIAL, LINKS OR DISCUSSION ARE ACCEPTABLE!

5. Don't give everyone headaches. Please do not use ALL CAPS, very large, very small, very bright or otherwise illegible or difficult to read font styles. Personalizing the look of your posts is encouraged, but if other posters tell you your posts are painful to read, please consider altering your style to be less objectionable.

Cursing is ok, within limits, dammit. If it is excessive, your post may be deleted or modified. If it does get out of control, certain words may have censors put on them, so please do not make this necessary. We've all seen that the Word Nerds are an articulate and interesting bunch, so let's keep it that way, LOL.

6. Don't overquote. When responding to a post, please quote only the relevant portion, summarize or refer to the post. Quotes of quotes of quotes disrupt the threads. Same applies with images.

7. Keep your posts on-topic. Use your common sense when starting a new thread or posting in one already existing. We want this forum to be rich in content, so we highly encourage posting of creative writing, art work, news, videos and photos. On the other hand, give credit where credit is due: provide complete citations when citing or using secondary sources.

We have an "Off-topic" section where you can post, discuss, open threads about other TV shows, music, movies, books, hobbies, etc.

8. Post to everybody, not just your BFF. Use PMs when conducting a direct conversation with other member/s. Do not engage in personal conversation in a thread. We want everyone to feel free to join every thread, and personal conversations in them reek of cliquishness and exclusion.

9. Linking is OK. You are free to mention any other site, forum, media, etc. You are free to post links to whatever source you want (again, taking into account all of the above mentioned rules). Use the guiding rules on how to insert links into your post. We encourage using a descriptive text link rather than the direct url.

10. Ask mods your moderation questions, not everybody.
If you have a question or problem contact a moderator by PM. If you see a post that you feel is outside of the guidelines of the forum, please use the 'Report Abuse' button in the upper right hand corner of each post. Do not discuss questions about moderating or moderating decisions in the threads.

If you have suggestions on how to make the board better, please feel free to post it in the appropriate section (these topics may be moved to the site’s administration section for further discussion, so if your post disappears from this section, this is why).

11. Knowing the rules is your responsibility. If one of your posts is removed or modified, you may not receive an explanation as to why. If you are posting here, you are expected to know the rules and make sure that the content of your posts are within them. It is our hope that the need to modify/remove posts will be rare occurrences. The removal of posts is a judgment call that each Mod will have to make and that decision is final. If your post has been removed and you are pretty sure why, you are free to post again, just make sure to keep it within the guidelines. If however you do have a question/problem about why your post was modified/removed, please feel free to contact one of the Mods for assistance.

12. Just the FAQs, please. Check the FAQs section for further information on image size, signature characteristics, avatar instructions, descriptive linking and other posting guidelines. (Coming Soon)

In summary, use your good judgment and common sense. Think of this site as your home and your community and act accordingly. If you have doubts about posting something, ask a mod.

Moderators

As said before, this is a free expression site. The role of moderators is mainly that of keeping the board clean and within the above mentioned rules and posting guidelines.

Moderators will investigate all rules violations that are reported using the 'Report Abuse' button or posts that they come upon in reading the board. If a post is found to be outside of the guidelines set, posters may be subject to warnings, suspension or banning. Posts found to be in violation of the rules may be modified or deleted. Occasionally we may find it necessary to lock a specific topic to discuss the topic content. After discussion these topics will either be unlocked with a reminder of the rules or removed altogether. Posts that flauntingly violate the site's rules will be removed and the poster will be warned, suspended, their user ID deactivated and/or their IP banned depending on the severity of the infraction. We do not anticipate that ANY of the above will be come a problem and it is our hope that these instances will be few and far between.

Out of respect for the moderators on the Mod team, please do not ask how they came to be a Mod as that can be a somewhat uncomfortable question to answer.  We also ask that you not ask to be a Mod or ask someone that is a Mod how you can become a Mod.  Moderators for this forum were selected from a massive group of people and of course only a small number of that massive group is going to be a Mod.  Please don't think that because someone is a Mod that they are any more valued on this forum than each and every person who is a member.  Your Mods are your peers and as such were fans of David Cook long before they became moderators.

Each of the moderators on this forum are doing so on a volunteer basis, out of a labor of love.  There's no paycheck involved in all the hard work they are doing on a daily basis.  Besides the appreciation of those they work in service for, all of YOU and the knowledge that they are providing a service for each one of the members of this forum, by using their best judgment to ensure that the things posted on the forum are within the guidelines that have been set.  Beyond even that though, all of the moderators on this forum are also fans of David Cook and will most likely be posting in the threads right along side the people that they are having to moderate.  So any actions that are necessary to take, are most definitely not taken lightly, but out of need.  Each of us take this very seriously and hope that at the end of the day, there is some understanding in what we do, rather than a feeling of resentment for the actions that we feel we have to make.  None of us want to hurt anyone's feelings or make any enemies due to the actions that we have to take and hope that each of you understand this.  Because where's the fun in hurting people feelings or making enemies, when many of those same people are people we call friends.

Privacy Policy

This site's Privacy Policy ensures your privacy on this site. You are not obligated to give any personal information for registration purposes, and any information that you choose to disclose (e.g., in your profile, posts or via PMs) is entirely at your own discretion.

Moderators participating in these forums are not responsible for the privacy practices of any user. Remember that all information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to share any of your personal information.

Thank you so much for taking the above into consideration in your posting and for your participation on this forum. Now get out there and HAVE SOME FUN! *wink*
